App Permissions

SobrietyClock is an advertiser supported app (hereinafter referred to as the 'SERVICE') for the Android platform. This SERVICE is provided at no cost and is intended for use AS IS.

Android PERMISSIONS are security measures that grant or restrict access to certain features and data on a user's device. When you install an Android app, it may request various PERMISSIONS to access specific functionalities or resources on your device. These PERMISSIONS serve as a way to protect your privacy, data, and device security by ensuring that apps have limited access to sensitive information.

PERMISSIONS are crucial for several reasons:

  1. User Privacy: PERMISSIONS help protect your privacy by allowing you to control what information an app can access. For example, an app may request access to your device's camera, microphone, contacts, or location. By granting or denying these PERMISSIONS, you have the ability to safeguard your personal data and ensure that apps are only accessing what they truly need.
  2. Security: PERMISSIONS also play a vital role in ensuring the security of your device. They prevent malicious apps from gaining unauthorized access to sensitive areas or performing potentially harmful actions. By carefully reviewing and approving PERMISSIONS, you can reduce the risk of your device being compromised or your data being misused.
  3. Data Protection: PERMISSIONS help protect your data by limiting an app's access to specific resources or functionalities. For instance, an app may request permission to access your storage, allowing it to read or modify files. By controlling these PERMISSIONS, you can prevent apps from accessing or manipulating data without your knowledge or consent.
  4. App Integrity: PERMISSIONS are essential for maintaining the integrity of the Android ecosystem. They help ensure that apps adhere to a set of predefined rules and limitations, preventing them from misusing device capabilities or engaging in malicious behavior. App developers must declare the PERMISSIONS their apps require, and users have the ability to review and approve these PERMISSIONS before installing an app.

It's important to note that PERMISSIONS are granted at the time of installation, and Android versions before Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) required users to grant all requested PERMISSIONS upfront. However, since Marshmallow, Android introduced a permission model that allows users to grant or revoke specific PERMISSIONS individually, even after installing the app.

When installing apps, it's a good practice to review the requested PERMISSIONS and consider whether they align with the app's intended functionality. If an app requests PERMISSIONS that seem excessive or unnecessary for its purpose, it's worth questioning the app's trustworthiness and considering whether you should proceed with the installation.

By understanding and managing permissions on your Android device, you can maintain better control over your privacy, security, and data, ensuring a safer and more secure app experience.

This page is to inform you what PERMISSIONS the SERVICE uses, and why the SERVICE requires these PERMISSIONS to function. If you choose to use our SERVICE, then you agree to grant the SERVICE access to the PERMISSIONS. If you decide to deny or revoke a PERMISSION, the Service may not work properly.
